How YAPCF supports the children and families of YAP
IN THE CLASSROOM:
YAPCF pays DDI the balance of payroll to keep the classrooms at a one to one
ratio. YAP’s official state ratio is 6:1:3.5, which means 6 students, 1 teacher,
3 full time assistants and 1 part time assistant. This means dyads and possible
triads - NOT ONE TO ONE.
In order to maintain the optimum student to staff ratio, it is imperative for
all of us to be involved and keep raising funds so our children can have great
success at YAP. This is the main reason The Young Autism Charitable Foundation
was created. The intensive one to one YAP program has been able to provide our
children with a brighter future.
FOR OUR STAFF:
YAPCF pays for the Staff Appreciation luncheon for the Medford and Ronkonkoma
building each year. The Charitable Foundation also supplies both buildings with
bottled water, bagels and coffee every other week and a Holiday Party for the
YAP staff. These are ways The Foundation can help boost morale and more
importantly let staff know how much the parents appreciate having such a
dedicated and hard working team working with their children.
FOR THE FAMILIES:
The foundation pays for home staff ABA hours four times a year (during each
summer break, winter break and during the December break). The Foundation hosts
a holiday party for the children of YAP and their families. We also purchase
educational materials and related items to be used in the classrooms.
YAPCF also helps support autism-related projects, such as NSASA’s Evening at
Adventureland and The Moriches Rotary Autism Swim at St. Joseph’s in Patchogue.
MAINTAINING FUNDRAISING FOCUS ON YAPCF:
YAPCF makes donations to organizations on behalf of YAP families to allow
parents to focus their fundraising for their child’s program. YAPCF makes
donations to organizations such as The DDI Foundation and Autism Speaks.
